The Cybertruck in Europe: where and how is it legal?
No European type approval, and yet registered Cybertrucks are already driving on the continent's roads. Here is the state of play, and why Swiss registration is one of the most solid routes.
Why it is not sold in Europe
Tesla never applied for European type approval for the Cybertruck. The continent's standards differ from US rules on several points, notably lighting, sharp body edges and pedestrian protection. Without that manufacturer certification, no European dealership can sell it.
The registration routes that work
Individual approval in the EU. Several European countries allow single-vehicle approval. The first Cybertrucks registered in Europe went through these national procedures, with requirements that vary widely between countries.
Swiss individual homologation. Switzerland has a proven procedure: conversion, cantonal inspection, registration. That is the route we practise, with partner offices in four cantons. To date, CYBERBEAST is the only Swiss company with such direct agreements.
Driving across Europe on Swiss plates
